2007 predictions
Politics Cameron destroys what was once a great party, William Hague picks up the pieces, follows his instincts and leads the party to electoral success in Local Elections. Calls for Referendum on EU Membership taken up as Conservative policy, stops and even reverses the rush of voters to UKIP, and leads to 30% lead in polls and widespread clamour for a General Election.
TV and Cult of Personality. People come to realise that anyone who can read an autocue can read the news or present shows, jobs offered to out of work actors at £25,000 per year, £millions saved and spent on programmes. Judges define what it is to be 'entertained and informed' by the BBC. Woss and Norton made to hand back all monies except for 93p each for each programme made.
Honours Party workers, time serving civil servants, second rate pop stars, soap actors and shite sportsmen debarred from even getting a Blue Peter Badge. Honours to given to brave servicemen, lifeboat crews, etc.
Transport Fuel protests return, car users demand road improvements paid for out of road tax, fuel duty and tax; outcry about what would happen to 'schoolsanospitals' silenced by realisation that they remain utter crap no matter what is spent on them.
Rural Areas In a last act of pure spite because country people will not shut up about hunting, Nulab bans countryside; all rural areas are abolished and all country dwellers moved into new GreenBelt cities. Prescot tasked to carry out planning.
Weather The weather will be variable but each highish temperature, wettish rain or deepish snow will be hailed as the worst ever since 1998 and be used to justify even more tax.
Sport Performance of all British sportsmen will continue to be inversely proportional to how good they think they are and how much they are paid. People will continue to attach importance to their nancying about with balls, bats, racquets etc. Some will retire and get proper jobs, some of course will retire and get taken on by BBC to bore us with stories about what they did and what they think, as if we care.

Peace and Armies
I was reading an article on the Sally Army recently which reinforced what I thought of these people. They will be out in the cold in very nasty environments, clad in anachronistic clothing and their strong beliefs, showing love and concern for people of all colours and creeds. They will give cheer to many shoppers with their bands and carol singing. If you see any, chuck a few quid at them, they will use it well.
I would say God Bless them for the work they do, but I know that He does, so go on God, Bless them a bit more.
On the other hand many of the Religion of Peace™ will go about clad in their anachronistic garb of middle ages arabia , hatred and maybe a belt of explosive.
So we have an Army of Soldiers out loving people and a Religion of Peace™ out trying to kill.
As someone said it's a funny old world.
I'm off fishing tomorrow instead of doing the usual Christmas thing, I will be on Chesil Beach... and I will enjoy it.
Enjoy your Christmas too, Happy Christmas.

Something fishy about fishing stocks
"The most heated part of the discussions were about restrictions on days at sea — which experts say are the most effective way of controlling fishing effort – for whitefish boats and the small-mesh prawn fleet which kills cod as a "by-catch".Ministers were astonished to find when they got to Brussels that Mr Borg had concluded a side-deal with the Netherlands, allowing the Dutch beam-trawl fleet a reduction of only eight per cent in its days at sea. Other ministers promptly demanded the same concession for their fleets — whatever they catch.Ministers then agreed to cut the days at sea for the cod fleet by between seven and 10 per cent, rather than the 15 per cent that Britain and some other member states had been prepared for.A source close to the discussions said: "We were gobsmacked when we realized Borg had offered the Dutch this deal. They are the worst on by-catch of other species and on killing undersized plaice.""
Small mesh prawn fleet ? let's have a look at what they do, I can't find any modern-day research but have some from a hundred years ago when they did research properly instead of slanting results towards those funding the research.
For you young'uns out there, 20 quarts of shrimps equate to 5 gallons or 23 litres; consider that as well as shrimp/prawn fisheries you have sandeel fishing, and you can see the carnage caused by this type of fishing. It is no wonder that seabird stocks and mature fish stocks are falling if the bottom of the food chain and immature fish are being removed on this scale.
I could rant about the scallop boats destroying the marine habitat of Lyme Bay but will save that for another day.

The Guardian and the BNP
I was expecting a bit of bashing to be going on, but no; he picks up on the fact that..... membership lists are encrypted... well bugger me backwards! who would think of doing that ! I am not a Guardian reader but would think that they have at some time, or indeed often, joined the hue and cry over BNP members working in the public sector and that any "reporter" would not be so stupid as to imagine he could just walk into the office and walk away with a list to publish.
Any mention of BNP usually has the tag 'odious', 'extreme' or 'nazi-loving' but no such stuff in this piece, what is going on ? I thought it was almost law that you have to heap abuse on them and teach your children to do likewise.
Very few media types have ever picked up on the behaviour of the media to the BNP, they will all cry "Freedom of speech" but will deny it to those with certain views, it is a fact that BNP members are discriminated against in the public sector; my local newspapers carry adverts for Prison Service jobs that state that they will not employ anyone of any organisation that they consider to be racist. Under which law they are allowed to do this I do not know. I assume that the prison service think that the BNP member will not carry out his duties in an even handed manner, No such concerns when radical muslims, or even Guardian readers, are allowed ever increasing roles in Immigration control and Security jobs; they of course would never let their personal beliefs influence the way they make decisions, would they? There have been outcries against teachers, policemen, and the chap who stood as a candidate in an Architecture election (can't be arsed to look up the reference and who the fuck is worried about right wing window detailing or architraves.).
We have had the vilification of the BNP, we have had the prevention of BNP members working in the state sector, we have had the blaming of the BNP for riots......
It is time that The Guardian came out with it.... make the BNP 'scum' wear some sort of identifying mark, a distinctive cloth patch will do: This should do until someone comes up with a final solution.
Can no one see the irony of it all ?
I am not a member of the BNP but have read their manifesto, I agree with some things in it, I have read other party manifestos and agree with some things in those also, like all thinking individuals.I believe that people should be able to voice concerns and make comment; I can't remember any cases of BNP members calling for the beheading of people who criticise them or take the piss out of them with cartoons.
What is astounding is that politicians and commentators are now saying things about islam and immigration that got two of the BNP dragged through the courts only a short time ago; and this looks like the thing Nick Griffin was drawing attention to when he incurred the wrath of the censors.
Perhaps the reporter has been 'converted' and will act as a double agent within the Guardian, not likely of course, those Guardian blinkers would need crow-barring off.
