Have just watched two people buying PG tea bags in Morrisons, clearly marked prices on the shelf edge showed 160 bags for £3.18.... just below a far bigger box of 240 bags for £3.00.
They took the smaller boxes.....

Was it not Blackadder who said something about ape creatures in the Indus having mastered basic maths when he was unable to teach Baldrick.
The supermarkets economies of scale are rather confusing..it does take more than an average punter can summon up sometimes.
With you there Haddock. Not a tea drinker myself, but seen the same with people buying 24 cans of Carlsberg at Tesco for £15.48 while there are copious 12 packs priced at £6.62 at eye level above.
Perhaps the maths is too difficult.
